About
For the Stanford Shakespeare Company 2025 showcase, I directed a scene from the history play King John. I have always loved the history plays; however, they often get a reputation for being boring, confusing, and overly macho. Using pared-down period aesthetics with modern elements in tandem with a cast of people of all genders - including trans and nonbinary actors - this piece aimed to show how the politics of Shakespeare’s histories can read to modern audiences as well as transcend traditional, hypermasculine casting.
